With its smooth organic contours, the Lalea lamp, by Italian architect Bruno Gecchelin, is a superb example of Guzzini’s ability to magically synthesise the constraints of mass production with the freedom of artistic vision. Designed in 1977, the Lalea is composed of two plastic moulded shells that clasp an oval shaped base and lamp holder, around which a thick black rubber ring is placed to firmly hold everything in place. The shells are moulded out of an opaline plastic which allows the lamp to cast a very soft diffuse light. Apart from Guzzini, Gecchelin worked on projects with many of Italy’s most respected producers of lighting including Oluce, Arteluce, Tronconi and Venini. The lamp is in excellent condition and working order and comes fitted with a new E14 2.5W 250 lumen LED light source.
