Eero Saarinen’s Tulip Table, designed in 1956 as part of his Pedestal Collection for Knoll, was an effort to reduce the clutter of legs seen in traditional furniture. The iconic table, typically made with a sleek, single pedestal base of cast aluminum, originally featured a laminate or marble top. However, rarer versions came with a wooden top, offering a unique warmth and contrast to the otherwise modern, sculptural form.
